About the Project

These days kids spend most of their free time on electronic devices, using social media and/or playing video games, rather than spending time outdoors. Finding an outdoor activity kids enjoy can help them develop healthy habits that they will carry into adulthood. This guide is intended to get kids excited about hiking in our local area. It was created as a Girl Scout Gold Award Project. A Gold Award Project is designed to solve a community or world problem in a sustainable way. It is the highest award a Girl Scout can earn.
